The Teye Jazz Cat

This is the Teye Jazz Cat! (As described by our dealer in the Netehrlands Mr. Robbert van der Ende of MAX Guitars:)

A beautiful Semi-hollow guitar and true piece of art! The Korina is dressed in Teye’s well-known colorful ‘shipwreck’ stain finish, it features solid figured Maple caps on the front and back, an ebony fingerboard with ‘Bedouin’ or more ornate ‘Touareg’ shell inlays, Grover Super Rotomatic Tuners, twangy but full-sounding TV Jones ‘Toaster’ humbucking pickups, and the stylish Teye designed hardware, pickup rings and Arabic tuner buttons and Minaret-style knobs. The pick guard is a piece of engraved art by itself inlaid with little diamond shaped semi-precious stabilized Turquoise pieces. it comes with a Goelsdorf/Duesenberg Vibrato, which has numerous solid improvements over a standard tremolo, but if you prefer a Bigsby, that is also a possibility.

This Guitar’s got MOJO!

Like all Teye humbucker-equipped guitars it comes with a five way switch that, compared to any regular 2 humbucker guitar, gives you the two extra positions: position ‘2’ (split coil on the bridge pickup + full neck) and ‘4’ (both pickups combined but out-of-phase for a ‘Peter Green style’ sound.) The volume and Tone controls are different too: the Volumes have been described as ‘sweet’ and ‘useful’, you can dial back any high-gain sound to achieve an almost acoustic-like chime and clean. Teye’s Tone-control is also unusual in that it does roll of high frequencies but without ever becoming muddy. You can achieve Fuzz-Face-like vocal qualities by rolling Tone to zero; and using the neck pickup at full volume. The Mojo knob control (closest to the output jack) completes the electronic department. This control is all-passive, but it dramatically extends the range of sounds and gives you a much broader tonal spectrum, ranging from more ‘introvert’ when you turn counter clockwise, to more ‘extrovert’ and ‘out there’ (turn clockwise)

Unlike the name suggest, this is not a one-trick pony but really a very versatile guitar fit for music styles from jazz, through fusion, blues, rockabilly, pop and rock. It is another true Teye-original and one of my personal favorites. The warm, punchy sound has more jangle, more deep low end, than Teye’s solid body guitars. If your your taste veers towards the unique and interestingly different you definitely should test-drive the Jazz Cat!

Well known Teye artists: Rich Robinson (Black Crowes; Bad Company; Magpie Salute), Mick Taylor (Rolling Stones), Joan Jett. Waylon, Johnny Depp, Zac Brown, Cade Foehner (American idol) David Hollestelle (Herman Brood’s Wild Romance)
